STILL LIFE PAINTING

This course is designed to encourage students to get creative with still life painting. Starting with lectures discussing the genre’s history and showing unusual and inspiring work, we will look at how composition, subject matter and the use of metaphor can elevate simple depictions of objects to great works of art. There will be an emphasis on developing and refining ideas to make memorable and meaningful still life paintings. We will cover drawing and painting techniques, object selection, composition and lighting. The students will provide their own materials and are welcome to work in whatever medium they prefer (acrylic, oils, pastels, etc).
