Spinning: Beginners. Monday 10am-12noon over ten weeks

This class is aimed at people who have not tried spinning before, or who are just beginning.

The class will start with learning the basics of spinning using a drop spindle and wool fibre to make a yarn suitable for knitting or weaving. Next the class will move on to using a spinning wheel and learn how to set up the wheel, spin on it and ply to make finished yarns. The course will also cover the use of different fibres and fibre preparation techniques using both fleece and commercial fibres, yarn finishing and how to spin a variety of different yarns.

Both fleece and commercial fibres will be used on the course, please advise me in advance of any allergies. We may also be handling unwashed fibre on occasion, please advise me if there is any reason (low immune system, pregnancy etc) you cannot do this and substitutes will be provided.

Materials for the course will be provided at a cost of £15 per term (payable to tutor on first night) including all fibres required for classes . Spinning wheels and other necessary equipment will be provided for use in class. Spinning wheel hire for home use can be arranged at a modest extra cost, please contact me for details.
