Spinning – Intermediates – Improve your Spinning . Wednesday 10am-noon over 10 weeks.
This class is aimed at people who know the basics of using a spinning wheel and who can already spin a single and ply a yarn. It can be taken as a stand alone class or as a progression from the Spinners: Beginners class.
The class will start with reviewing the basics of creating a skein of 2 ply yarn using short forwards draw.. We will then move on to exploring a wider “toolbox” of spinning and fibre preparation techniques including spinning long draw, singles and three-ply yarns, controlling the thickness of your singles and a variety of fibre preparation techniques including combing and using a drum carder.
Both fleece and commercial fibres will be used on the course, please advise me in advance of any allergies. We will also be handling unwashed fibre on occasion, please advise me if there is any reason (low immune system, pregnancy etc) you cannot do this and substitutes will be provided.
Materials for the course will be provided at a cost of £15 per term (payable to tutor on first night) to cover all fibres required for classes . Spinning wheels and other necessary equipment will be available for use during classes. Spinning wheels are also available to hire for a small fee + deposit. You are encouraged to bring your own wheel to class if you have one but it must be in good working condition, advice on this is available
