This class will be in the Mill Building on the first Floor
Students will have the use of a hand made tapestry loom for the class. And you will need to purchase acrylic or wool for the carpet. You will be advised on the quantity to buy and may purchase this from the tutor.
Students will not be accepted once the course has started.
In this class you will learn the techniques of this slow traditional form of weaving on a frame approximately 60cm wide. You will produce a sample piece of tapestry suitable for use as a cushion front or upholstering a small chair pad or as a test piece for a larger rug.
‘I have a lifetime experience of being around my grandmother who was an avid weaver and used this to earn a living. I started weaving myself when I was 7 or 8 years old both in school and at home’.
By the end of the course students will have grasped the basics of carpet/rug weaving and have developed a degree of confidence in using the loom and starting a pattern by themselves.
