Portrait Painting

With Owen Normand
Thursday 1pm – 4pm

3rd Floor Poldrate Granary

Course Description

This 10 week portraiture course aims to make portraiture a less daunting subject by breaking it down into manageable bite-sized stages that anyone can complete. We will get to grips with how to simplify the head and face, measure proportions, judge light and shade, simplify colour, understand colour temperature, and use colour studies to problem solve, before starting a more finished painting. We will study the masters of portraiture and also look at contemporary portrait artists and how they work. We will mainly be working from photographs, paintings and self portraiture from life. The students will provide their own materials and are welcome to work in whatever medium they prefer (acrylic, oils, pastels, etc).
